You can never be too careful

I am a little bit of a sun bunny, not to the extreme, but I enjoy being outside, relaxing on a warm summers afternoon.  Growing up we had a pool, were always outdoors and back then sunscreen was not highlighted as a major need as it is these days.  I also admit to using sun beds in my younger adult years – I look back now and cringe at the thought!

So as a precaution, I took myself off to have my moles scanned a few years ago just to ensure I was in tip top condition.  I wasn’t.  On my initial scan there were 3 moles that looked a little dodgy.  After further examination, one had to be removed.  It was a mole that I had literally seen growing over the years but it was tiny.  It was located on the inside of my big toe, my BIG TOE, how does sunshine get to the inside of my BIG TOE!  So half an hour and four stitches later I had it removed.

Fast forward to over a year later, I went for another check up.  Yep, you guessed it, another dodgy looking mole – one that didn’t come up in the previous check.  It was on my back, the size of a pen tip and apparently looked to be growing.  I had to wait three months and have it re-checked before any further action could be taken.

Those three months were up on Saturday.  I went for my check up and guess what? I got the all clear!  I need to go back before the end of the year, just to be sure, but at this stage there has been no growth so everything is ok!

I know summer is officially over but please whenever you are outside remember to slip, slop and slap as you can never be to careful.  If you feel that you have anything that might look or feel a little odd, take yourself off to your local Mole Screen and get it checked – you are much better off being safe than sorry.
